The most significant update to NorthstarMLS Matrix 7.0 (which is now live), are the redesigned Client Portal displays. With Responsive Design, the new Client Portal will automatically adjust to optimally display listings on your client’s device.

Though many other MLS’s using Matrix completely eliminated their previous portal displays, NorthstarMLS insisted that they retain our previous portal displays too (though they are not responsive design). The “three dots icon” can be hidden if the user is holding their mobile phone vertically. Tilting the device to landscape view (best for viewing the single line display) will reveal the three dots icon for selecting those additional display options.

The animation below demonstrates how this works. Tapping on the three dots, highlighted in the red box, will open more display options to pick from.

Note: Users viewing listings in the Client Portal from an iPad or tablet should not encounter this, as the screen is larger than a mobile phone and is able to show more on the screen. Displays such as the Portal Single Line display are going to be best viewed on a desktop/laptop, but will work on a mobile device. However, this display does not support responsive design.

Today we focus on Agent Notifications. New with version 7.0, you can set up Matrix to notify you of activities your clients are doing on their client listing portals. Especially the new Listing Notes feature where they can send you notes tied to specific listings. This video shows you how to quickly do this one-time set-up.

The NorthstarMLS Matrix system will be unavailable tonight for approximately 30 minutes starting at 12:00 midnight. The downtime is needed to complete the Matrix 7.0 upgrade.

All other NorthstarMLS systems will be available during this time and can be accessed from the NorthstarMLS Portal (click the Portal Login button on NorthstarMLS.com). You can also access NorthstarMLS listings during this time using the Homespotter and Homesnap mobile apps.

Just a reminder that when you log in to Matrix for the first time after the upgrade, you will be required to accept the revised End User License Agreement.

The new Matrix version 7.0 is coming this Thursday, November 2. Here is a reminder of what to expect, and how to prepare:

  • Client Portal. A redesigned, more intuitive, updated client portal based on consumer focus groups. It will automatically adjust to optimally display listings on your client’s device. If you want to give your active clients a “heads up” about the changes, share this video with them.
  • Listing Notes and Agent Notifications. In the redesigned portal, your clients can send you notes tied to specific listings. You can do a one-time set-up to be notified (by email or text) whenever you are sent a Listing Note. You can also choose to be notified of other client portal activities, such as when they visit the portal, mark favorites, etc. Watch this preview video on how, starting Thursday, you can set up your notifications (and header/footers).
  • Headers. Redesigned headers for your portal and reports, and a broader selection of them. The larger 1600 x 120 size will auto-adjust according to the screen size used to view. If you have designed your own custom headers, check out this previous news item. Also, watch this preview video on how, starting Thursday, you can set up your headers/footers (and portal activity notifications).
  • Google Maps. All Microsoft bing maps will be replaced with Google Maps throughout Matrix.
  • Revised EULA. When you log on to Matrix for the first time after the upgrade, you will be required to re-accept the End User License Agreement before you can proceed. It has been updated with the Google Maps terms of use and information about broker-selected copyright protection. Click here if you want to review the EULA in advance.
  • Matrix 7.0 Library. We put all of our info on version 7.0 here, on one web page.

The most significant update in Matrix 7.0 (releasing Thursday, November 2), is the Client Portal redesign. This redesign was over a year in the making with consumer focus groups giving feedback on how the portal can best meet their needs.

Here is the web address for the video: https://youtu.be/3cQU6F5qios

You may want to send this to your current active clients to give them a “heads-up” on the changes coming to their client portal on November 2nd. The new portal displays are designed to automatically adjust for the best viewing experience depending on your client’s device: smartphone, tablet or laptop/desktop. For anyone who prefers the current displays over the new ones, those will still be available as shown in the video.

Have you uploaded your own custom header to Matrix that displays on your client portals and reports?  When Matrix 7.0 releases on November 2nd, it will now support a larger header size: 1600 x 120 pixels. Your current custom header will still work in version 7.0. However, at some point you may want to redo it to take advantage of the larger size. Supported file formats are still JPG and GIF. (Note: avoid putting important information on the right side of your custom header as it may be cut off when printing reports. This will be fixed in version 7.1, which is coming soon.)

If you want a header banner but don’t want to create your own, version 7.0 will have many more predesigned choices (like the one above).  Watch for more details to set up your own Matrix header (as well as your client portals and the new portals notification feature).

Remember when you first logged in to Matrix and had to accept the End User License Agreement before proceeding? With the replacement of Bing maps with Google maps coming with next month’s Matrix upgrade, we must add a new paragraph to the License Agreement to cover Google’s requirements. Additionally, we have added a section regarding Intellectual Property that describes listings copyright assignment according to the selection made by your broker.

Because of these additions, all NorthstarMLS subscribers will need to click to accept the License Agreement again the morning after the upgrade. Although this is still a month away, we are announcing it now for those who want time to read the agreement before accepting it next month.

Click here for the full Matrix End User License Agreement. The Intellectual Property section is on the middle of page 2, and the Google Maps addition is on the bottom of page 4. If you have questions, contact our Help Desk at help@northstarmls.com.
