Now that you have downloaded and registered your Homesnap app (with Broker Public Portal), you’re ready to use one of its most valuable features: Invite your Contacts to both download the app and connect with you!

Close to a quarter of a million (237,700) consumers have already accepted NorthstarMLS agent Homesnap invitations and connected! Each one of those connections has the potential to spread the word to friends and family and help the Real Estate Industry’s source of data go viral.

Why invite your Contacts into Homesnap?

  • Reduces their need to look to third party sites for information.
  • If they accept your invitation, their Homesnap app is branded to you, and all inquiries they make about listings go direct to you.
  • They get to use the same tool that you use as an agent: one of the highest rated real estate apps, and with the most accurate data direct from 125 MLS’s (and growing) across the country.
  • No distracting advertising or redirects to other agents.

This national real estate industry-led effort enhances your client relationships and helps reclaim the agent-consumer relationship from third-party portals.

How can you participate? The first step is to download the Homesnap app for your smartphone/tablet and register for the agent PRO version. Over 11,500 NorthstarMLS subscribers have already done so. It’s quick and easy! The two-and-a-half minute video below shows you how. Or download our PDF Guide.

Next week we will cover the most important step–Invite your contacts to download Homesnap and connect with you.

Sunday’s Star Tribune featured a story on the Broker Public Portal, the real estate industry’s alternative to third party listing portals. The Broker Public Portal is known to consumers as Homesnap–the name of the smartphone app and website.

For the article, Star Tribune interviewed NorthstarMLS President & CEO John Mosey, who serves on the Broker Public Portal Board along with many other industry leaders.

As a NorthstarMLS subscriber, you have access to the “Pro” version of Homesnap where you can connect with all your contacts. Homesnap is available to all consumers with no advertising, and no paid agent placement on your listings. All inquiries about listings for sale from consumers (not already tied to an agent) go directly to the List Agent. Your listing, your lead!

There is a common misconception that MLS’s make money off of broker/agent listings by selling them to third party companies. NorthstarMLS does not and never has sold agent listings to Zillow, Trulia or any other company. Period.

Any listings appearing on these sites that are sent by NorthstarMLS is done so at the direction of the broker of the firms to which the agents/NorthstarMLS subscribers belong.

Our role is a convenience for the broker in that listings they submit to the MLS are accurate, complete and up-to-date. This means that when Zillow or similar sites get NorthstarMLS feeds, they are getting almost “up to the minute” additions and changes that the broker (or their agent) do not have to re-enter and maintain. Also, we were able to negotiate fair display and other terms that individual brokers might not be able to get on their own.

NorthstarMLS recently announced its involvement in the National Broker Public Portal initiative (BPP), which was founded by brokers all over the country along with MLS’s to create a consumer home search experience provided by real estate professionals, as opposed to media companies like Zillow and Realtor.com.

The BPP selected Homesnap as its technology provider and the Homesnap product is available today to more than 500,000 agents across the country through their MLS. NorthstarMLS is in that group.

Tip of the Week – Homesnap’s DIY Facebook Video Ads

Looking to improve your social media game? Homesnap (a NorthstarMLS mobile solution) has a new Facebook ad format tool for you to create short videos for use on your Facebook page. It’s called DIY Video Ads. You can now take your own videos and turn them into video Facebook ads in minutes.

Shoot walkthroughs of your listings, create a personal introduction for prospective clients, interview a happy client at closing, highlight a price cut, provide tips to buyers/sellers – however you choose to be creative! And then just upload the video, choose a style or animation, add a message, and Homesnap takes care of the rest. You can do all of this from your mobile device, too!

Note: *DIY Video Ads are only available through the latest version of the Homesnap Pro app on iPhones and iPads. Facebook Video Ads are not a core service – extra fees will apply to use this feature.

Watch the video below to see how it works and start creating your own video ads on Facebook.

We are proud to announce that the consumer version of Homesnap, Powered by the Broker Public Portal, is now available to buyers and sellers who are now going to national real estate portals.

The Broker Public Portal (BPP) initiative grew out of a movement among brokers across the country to develop an industry-controlled real estate search experience for consumers.

The idea was to leverage the relationship between brokers and their agents with the MLS where they list and sell property so that agents could deliver the highest quality listing information directly to buyers and sellers.

NorthstarMLS was at the forefront of this national collaboration between brokers and MLS’s.

Homesnap is the business and technology partner chosen by the Broker Public Portal Board of Managers to realize its goal of providing agents with an alternative to the big portals. It is a Mobile-first solution that has already achieved extraordinary adoption on a national basis both by agents who can engage with their clients and prospects using Homesnap Pro and directly by consumers who have made Homesnap the #1 rated real estate app in the App store.

You won’t find any advertising on the app, nor will you be sold premium placement or zip codes. This is a “your listing – your lead” service that is provided to you as a benefit from your MLS.

Buyers and sellers will see all the homes for sale from every real estate company in our markets updated at the same frequency as IDX and with the same levels of quality and accuracy that are the hallmarks of MLS.

We believe that Homesnap, Powered by Broker Public Portal, will be especially appreciated by consumers for its superior content and direct connection to you, the real estate professional best able to help them with their buying and selling needs.
